We can do that if that is what the company needs, but more often we are an addition to the existing team. The company may have lower level staff in place and need departmental leadership and guidance. Sometimes there is a hole in the department staffing or a burst of project work that needs to be addressed such as an audit, implementation, or acquisition.

We typically work for businesses with a turnover of $10m to $150m.

We find SMEs in this range are (or were) mostly family run businesses.  These businesses have the potential to scale up at a rapid pace, or have reached a point where they need to gird themselves against foreseeable events.  Either way, they need help.

These businesses inherently have a flat organisational structure allowing us to immediately and effectively work within the entire organisation.  Being able to work within a company is a satisfying experience.  It means we are a member of your team.

For most businesses use a weekly (or sometimes daily) activity level report to track their key performance indicators.

Such reports usually reflect a small number of statistics (generally no more than 6-8) to provide a snapshot of performance over a given period of time.   When we implement such reports we will always aim to tie them back to your monthly financial reporting.  This link back to your financials is vital, as it will give you the outcome of decisions made and how to measure decision that will be made.

We prefer not to.

Think of us as an alternative to the in-house CFO, or Financial Controller you would otherwise hire directly.  We are your team and thus not independent.   Whilst we are CPA, we do not perform what are otherwise considered independent audits for our customers.  We can however, undertake internal audits to assess a number of areas within the business (e.g. adequate business process, internal controls, etc…).

We also do not provide tax preparation services.  We generally will partner with your external accountants or we can outsource to assist our clients in obtaining these services.

The vCFO team stays with a company as long as necessary on an as-needed basis.

The amount of time depends on each client’s specific needs. Often EverSo is engaged as the company is facing an opportunity or crisis that creates a need for strategic planning and additional help at some level.  Occasionally clients have hired us as a fill in resource for a full time employee out on a leave while other clients engage because they need additional bandwidth from time to time.  We have engagements that last for many years as most of our clients never need their own full-time CFO.
